General Description of the Position:
With minimal direction, the network technician provides technical, operational and training support to users of agency's computers, either by telephone or on site.  Adheres to the computer department's policy for help desk requests.  Performs PC hardware diagnostics and problem resolution based on independent judgment and coordinates the purchase of the necessary parts and makes the proper repairs.  Assists management in the research, design, planning, proposing and implementation of new technologies for ongoing and future PC/Networking support systems.  Acts as a department liaison by coordinating software, hardware and informational needs to agency staff.

Qualifications:
Two years of college or technical school, with course of study relating to PC/Network hardware maintenance, repair, and operation
A background of extensive experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
Applicant must have a good understanding of LAN/WAN/Network system configurations, Internet, and e-mail
Experience in the installation of PC software applications such as the latest MS Office, Windows OS, AS400 Client, and Lotus Notes
Applicant will need to have troubleshooting experience with Windows OS, wireless networks, and printers operating in a network environment
A strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products and their use is a plus
Applicant must be able to support and train staff members on the use of all aspects of these products
Applicant must maintain a high level of confidentiality
Will be required to carry a cell phone for off-hour emergencies
Must be able to lift and move common PC and printer equipment up to 50 pounds and have a current driver's license
Classroom training and experience desired 

Essential Functions:
Knowledge of PC operation, construction and installation.  
Knowledge of PC software, including installation of system programs, utility programs and user application programs.  
Ability to think logically, analyze and troubleshoot PC hardware/software problems as well as network connectivity issues.  
Skill in assisting staff with varying levels of computer expertise in the operation of PC software, hardware and peripherals.  
Install network wiring when needed.

Responsibilities:
Responsible for new employee computer training, planning, installing and maintaining PC/Network hardware/software
Create, disable, and remove Active Directory user and computer accounts
Installation/Maintenance of PC/Network hardware/software and service pack updates
Installation/Maintenance of other business related software and hardware
Installation/Maintenance security software on company approved devices
Install and troubleshoot Network printers
Make repairs on defective computer equipment when feasible
Lift, maneuver and transport computers, components and boxes
Provide "Help Desk" support for assigned Computer Support Requests
Work cooperatively as a member of a service-oriented team, using a high level of tact to ensure a good working relationship with all agency staff
Responsible for day-to-day equipment inventory and with annual computer equipment inventory
Available to work overtime and on-call as assigned
Maintain a clean, organized work bench and office area
Responsible for all assigned tools and agency keys
Install, configure, and maintain common end-user application software
Perform other duties as assigned by the Information Systems Manager
